Club Car enjoys a well earned reputation for reliabiity and parts availability. This is due in part to Club Car’s Aluminum frame which is rust resistant and 10% lighter than comparable steel frames. This makes it ideal for coastal environments and for wet weather.
Club Car also enjoys a plentiful supply of accessories and body kits. The ability to customize your cart is part of what makes club a great platform to work on.
Club Car utilizes Curtis Controllers with their factory setup begining in 1995. Some customers have chosen to upgrade their controller to achieve more performance with kits like Navitas controllers, motors, and on the fly tuners.
When converting a Club Car there are certain considerations with wiring…specifically ground wires, load wires, accessory wiring, key switch wiring. Other considerations include V-Glide, MCOR, and APPS accelertor assemblies as these can pose different challenges during upgrades. Some controllers are not compatible with certain accelerator assemblies. In the case of V-Glide it may be in the way of your battery install.
Wiring can vary throughout the cart models and can change in color from one end of the wire loom to the other so a multi-meter is a must to understand where power is being routed, how much power, and if you have a good ground.
On certain models like the DS, and later DS IQ, and centerboard Precedent, you may need a different shape of battery to fit in your battery box due to narrow frame rails and controller or resistor location that can change your battery considerations.

The advancement in battery technology is visually apparent. A clean, consolidated, and organized power distribution system is consolidated.
The difference in available power is apparent as well. LifeP04 cells provide a constant nominal current of 48 volts (displayed as 51.2 or 51.3 volts) This translates to quicker acceleration and frequently higher top end speed.
Lead acid cells only provide half of the electrical capacity. The weight of lead acid is about 200 lbs or more compared to a comparable lithum battery. Lead Acid batteries last between 2-4 years and a quality Lithium should last between 12-15 years with a normal warranty of 10 years or more,
